Yaliskari Beach, a Lesser-known Beach on the West Coast of the Island of Corfu

If you're among those who plan to spend their vacation on the west coast of the island of Corfu and prefer to seek out places less crowded with tourists, you might want to consider that one of the tranquil beaches goes by the name of Yaliskari.

Yaliskari Beach

It is located in the Kontogialos area and is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, but the setting may not be the most suitable for families with children.

Where is Yaliskari Beach, How to Get There, and Distances from Other Resorts

To better orient yourself on the island, it's important to know that there are two beaches with similar names in Corfu, which can cause confusion for first-time visitors.

There is Yaliskari Beach in the west (the one described in this article) and Gialiskari Beach in the north. Yaliskari takes its name from the taverna behind it, as in reality, it seems that both beaches share the same name—Gialiskari. They are completely different in appearance and are about 53 kilometers apart.

Returning to Yaliskari Beach in the west, it is located 15.7 kilometers from the center of Corfu Town, and the drive between the two can be completed in about half an hour on a summer day with moderate to heavy traffic.

There are free parking spaces near the beach, but some tourists who have visited recommend parking at the upper part of the road.

Distances to Yaliskari Beach from other resorts:

  • Distance from Agios Gordios to Yaliskari Beach: 8.3 kilometers
  • Distance from Ermones to Yaliskari Beach: 9.2 kilometers
  • Distance from Paleokastritsa to Yaliskari Beach: 21 kilometers

  • Distance from Agios Stefanos Avliotes to Yaliskari Beach: 47 kilometers
  • Distance from Sidari to Yaliskari Beach: 46 kilometers

What Yaliskari Beach Looks Like and What Services Are Available at This Beach

In general, Yaliskari Beach is worth visiting if you're staying on the west coast, in one of the nearby resorts, rather than in places like Sidari, Kassiopi, Kavos, etc., as those areas offer much more picturesque beaches.

Yaliskari Beach is a medium-sized beach, made up of sand and equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. It has a narrow appearance and a gentle to moderate slope leading into the sea.

We mention that it may not be ideal for families with children because there are quite a few stones and rocks at the edges and at the water’s entrance. If you come here, be sure to bring special water shoes.

Behind the beach, there is a taverna with the same name (Yaliskari Beach), which has a 4.7 rating on Google and over 900 reviews. The menu offers a wide variety of appetizers, traditional Greek dishes, fish, and seafood (mussels, grilled sardines, fried calamari, shrimp, grilled octopus, sea bass, dorado), making it a good option for lunch or even dinner.

The Best Time to Visit Yaliskari Beach

Yaliskari is not one of the popular beaches on the west coast of Corfu, which means there's a good chance it won't be crowded, even during peak season. However, the taverna behind the beach is quite well-known, and some tourists who have visited in recent years have mentioned that finding a parking spot can be a bit challenging.

If you're vacationing in Corfu during July-August, we recommend visiting Yaliskari earlier in the day to ensure you find a parking spot and a sunbed in a place you like.

Otherwise, quieter periods are the end of May to early June or the end of September to early October.

During these times, not only are the beaches less crowded, but so are the roads and other tourist attractions. Additionally, temperatures are milder, and accommodation prices are more wallet-friendly.

Other Beaches Near Yaliskari Beach

Yaliskari may not be the best beach in the area, but it has the advantage of being quieter, more isolated, and less known. If you want to explore other beautiful seaside spots nearby, you can quickly head to:

Kontogialos Beach, which is just 1.7 kilometers north of Yaliskari and is entirely made up of sand, offering much more generous space.

It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, and the area behind the beach has seen significant tourist development in recent years (there is a bus stop nearby, as well as tavernas, bars, showers, toilets, and accommodation options).

Glyfada Beach is the next one after Kontogialos as you head towards Paleokastritsa. It has a similar appearance, with well-organized amenities and an exceptional backdrop featuring rocky landscapes and lush vegetation.

There are 6.4 kilometers between Glyfada and Yaliskari Beach.

Agios Gordios Beach is located in one of the most beautiful bays on the west coast.

It stretches for about 1.5 kilometers, is made up of sand, and has a wide opening to the sea. In Agios Gordios, you'll find water sports centers as well as a row of highly-rated restaurants and tavernas (Sabbia, Akrogiali Taverna, Thalassa Restaurant, Ortholithi Restaurant).

There are 8.4 kilometers between Agios Gordios Beach and Yaliskari Beach.

In Conclusion

Yaliskari Beach can be a reasonable beach option as long as you're staying nearby and looking for a less popular spot where you can truly relax. A plus is its organization, along with the well-reviewed taverna in the immediate vicinity.
