THE NAKED TRUTH ABOUT NUDISM

Myth-busting the Nudist Experience

THE NAKED TRUTH ABOUT NUDISM

Hi Travelers,

There are so many questions non-nudists, who are thinking about becoming first timers, have about nudism.  They wonder what kind of experience to expect at nudist resort (don’t say nudist colony, it’s so passé).

Because the general public does not know what happens behind those high walls at nudist resorts, certain myths have developed. The American Association for Nude Recreation would like to dispel some myths and misconceptions with the naked truth. So here goes...

First Myth: A visit to a nudist resort, park or campground might be sexual.

Reality: Members of the American Association for Nude Recreation (www.aanr.com) visit resorts to socialize with other nudists, make new friends, and have fun, not to have sex with strangers. Open sexuality is taboo.  You will feel safe at an AANR resort. Expect the same type of behavior as you would at any other nice resort that requires you to wear a bathing suit, actually even better behavior. Nude does not mean lewd. However, that being said there are "swinger" resorts out there. But they are not affiliated with AANR.

Second Myth: Only card-carrying nudists are allowed to visit nudist resorts and clubs.

Reality: Everyone is invited to join in the fun. First timers are gladly welcomed.  You will find nudists are among the most open and friendly folks you’ve ever encountered. They make great conversationalists and you’ll have lots of fun chatting and laughing with the new friends you’ll make. When you make a reservation at an AANR affiliated resort, the facility representative will explain property rules and regs to you in advance of your arrival so there'll be no surprises.

Third Myth: Nudists are always naked and do not pay attention to current fashions and trends.

Reality: One mantra of nudists is “clothed when practical, nude when possible.” On chilly days, nudists indeed do dress for warmth.  However, when the sun is shining and the weather is balmy, many have great fashion taste and have lots of fun with accessories such as hats, sunglasses, jewelry, sandals, towels, beach wraps and such.

Fourth Myth: Nudist resorts only cater to young model types.

Reality: AANR member resorts welcome people of all shapes, sizes, ages and ethnic groups. You will find singles, couples, and families at resorts and clubs. Nudists are very open about body acceptance, so don’t worry about how you look. It’s what you project from the heart and soul that matters, not the exterior packaging.

Fifth Myth: You should worry about your privacy at nudist resorts.

Reality: Member and guest privacy is very important at AANR resorts and clubs. Enjoying the naturist lifestyle doesn’t necessarily mean you want to share this fun experience with the rest of the world. When a nudist becomes an AANR club member, their information is kept confidential. Also, to maintain the privacy of resort/club guests, photography is restricted or not permitted, and in many locales cell phones must be left in your room, thus avoiding concerns over cell phone-taken photos.

So now that you know the naked truth about nude recreation, give it a try.  If you’re still a bit hesitant, check out the many great articles at http://www.aanr.com which provide additional insights into what to expect on your first visit to an AANR member resort or campground, and much much more.
