Rare Nudist Library Celebrates 45th Anniversary in 2024
Hi Travelers,
It doesn’t appear in travel guides or lists of offbeat destinations, but with books, magazines and other literary treasures dating back to the beginning of modern nudism, the American Nudist Research Library (ANRL) has been visited by scholars and historians from as far away as Australia, Brazil, The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and Japan, as well as throughout North America.
And, in 2024, nude recreation enthusiasts and editorially inspired scribes are urged to visit the newly remodeled facility, as the ANRL Library celebrates its 45th anniversary at the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort in Kissimmee, Florida.
Established in 1979 to preserve the history of the social nudist movement, the ANRL is a non-profit organization operated entirely by volunteers, and members of the International Nudist Research Library Consortium. The ANRL boasts a rare collection of memorabilia from the 1920s-on, as well as photos, videos, and other literary works from throughout North America and internationally.
Unlike public libraries, the ANRL only loans out materials to members of the Library, though it is open to visitors by appointment, or Monday through Saturday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Researchers are encouraged to peruse the materials for future editorial that advocates the benefits of wholesome social nude recreation.
The Library’s website http://anrl.org/ publishes lists of their archived material, to view in advance, so working journalists and other interested parties can more efficiently conduct onsite research.
Some new acquisitions include the 1975 movie version of Barely Proper and books such as Paul and James’s Naturist Adventure, Socks Are Not Enough, Pants Are Everything, and Adventures Without Clothes: An Anthology of The Best Naturist Adventure Stories.
AANR President Mitch London notes, "Our freedoms have come at a price. We need to keep alive the struggles and accomplishments of naturists over the past century.
To do that into the future, we make nudist-centric literature available to the nudist and non-nudist alike, while we encourage traditional and social media representatives to utilize our services and resources to tell our story without bias."
ANRL President Paul LeValley adds, “This Library had its beginnings when adult children of some of our earliest AANR members sought a location to preserve their personal libraries of nudist literature, magazines and such. We function totally on donations of time, money, and materials. Further donations are greatly appreciated.”
