Hi Travelers,
Nearly two years ago it was reported in Real Simple magazine, that the constant barrage of doom-laden news on global warming has created a climate of “environmentally triggered distress.” According to some psychologists, this so-called “eco-anxiety” can be mitigated by taking practical steps. These can include tuning out the bad news for a while, getting positively involved in climate activism, seeking professional help, and most importantly, reconnecting with nature.
To this end, the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR.com), which for over 90 years has promoted the values and joys of living au natural, recommends sampling a slice of life in the great outdoors at an AANR-member property in nothing more than your birthday suit, some sunblock and comfy footwear.
Two reasons nudists are also called naturists is that they are highly committed to minimizing their footprint on Mother Earth and to preserving natural settings that support naturism. A weekend or week-long Nakation℠ vacation can lead you on the path to alleviating eco-anxiety while also promoting personal well-being and body positivity.
Here are some additional ways AANR members suggest you can enjoy the personal process of becoming “one with nature.” While doing so, remember, take it slow.
· Breathe in heavily of the fresh outdoor air
· Admire the beauty of nature, from snowflakes to fragrant roses
· Tune an ear to nature, and pick up the sound of rustling leaves to the tap, tap, tap of rain on the windowpane
· Soak up the sun during the day and do some stargazing at night
· Dip your toes in the ocean or a babbling brook
· Begin sowing seeds for a spring/summer garden
· Watch the day’s sunrise and sunset
· Run barefoot through the grass
· Watch soaring birds, busy bees, scampering squirrels in their environments
· Take part in outdoor activity, from ice skating to skateboarding
· Meditate in front of a sunny window
· Rediscover the bounty in your own back yard
· Amble along a natural path, and stop frequently to assess your surroundings
· View breathtaking images of plants, animals, landscapes and more
· Keep a journal of your experiences in nature, and return to it to review, remember and relish
Enjoy the journey and the stress relief!
Naturally yours,
